Above Average
Your estimated risk is above average — worth a conversation with your doctor.
Both are 5-year risk estimates from the same Gail model — the average uses no personal risk factors, only your age and race.
Questions to bring to your next appointment
- Given my personal risk factors, does my screening schedule (mammogram frequency, starting age) need to change?
- Would genetic counseling or testing (e.g. BRCA1/2) be worth discussing given my family history?
- Are there lifestyle changes — alcohol, weight, activity — that meaningfully move a risk estimate like this one?
Gail model estimate — informational only, not a substitute for genetic counseling or clinical assessment.
How this is calculated
Implements the NCI Gail model: your risk factors set a relative risk, which scales age-specific baseline incidence rates (SEER data), integrated over the projection years while accounting for competing mortality. Coefficients come from NCI's own open-source BCRA package.
